Obituary for Anahid Dedeian

Anahid celebrated life for 87 years. She received her call to go home on September 15, 2016, a call she could not refuse.

An appointment from which she would not be returning. She was surrounded with those who loved and cared for her.

She was a true believer in God and in the power of prayer. Her family was blessed to learn many valuable lessons through her faith.

She was born in 1929 in Alexandria, Egypt. Her faith in Armenian Orthodox, even thought there wasn't an Armenian Church close by, she would walk one building from where she lived to pray at a Catholic Church.

At the age of 11, in a period of two weeks, she lost her dad, brother and sister due to illness. During this time, WW II was taking place and she could hear the bombs falling. Her mother, Herika Djebedjian, and she were alone until her sister brought them to live with her family in Cairo, Egypt. She acted and sang in Armenian on stage in Alexandria. She spoke Armenian, Arabic, Greek, English and a little French and Italian.

Sdepan Dedeian, was smitten by Anahid. After they were formally introduced, they married about 1 1/2 years later. They had a daughter Sonia and came to America in 1951. Later, their son George was born. Her children were her pride and joy.

Her faith helped her and Sdepan overcome all they changes they had to go through in America without family. With God's help, they made friends, participated in cultural events at church and established themselves.

Anahid worked at Masco Corporation and later Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, where she retired from and Sdepan worked and retired from Ford Motor Company. They never took a sick day or were later to work. They worked with integrity because they were very grateful that this country gave them the opportunity to make a better life for them and their family.

Sdepan and Anahid were proud to be an American. She always loves to see the large American flag wave in the wind and Sdepan loved America because it gave him opportunities that he never would have had elsewhere.

Her family will always miss and love her. She will always be in their their thoughts and prayers.

Anahid loved her husband, children and family.

A private family funeral was held on Wednesday, April 21, 2016 at St. John's Armenian Church.

In lieu of flower donations for Anahid are to The Terchoonian Home Orphanage. The Terchoonian Home Orphanage is in Gyumri, Armenia.
