Obituary for Margaret Barsamian

Margaret Barsamian passed away at the age of 78 on February 14, 2021.

She was born Rose Margaret Tootalian on December 11, 1942 in Detroit, MI and was the 2nd child born to Zabel and Kapreal Tootalian. Rose grew up with her sister Almast in Cleveland, Ohio. She was called by her middle name because the grandmother she was named after insisted she was the only Rose and she would not share her name while she was alive. So everyone knows her as Margaret.

After graduating high school Margaret studied to become a teacher at Bowling Green State University. She succeeded and became a 6th grade teacher in Royal Oak, MI. While teaching she was active in ACYOA. She enjoyed bowling and spending time with extended family.

Margaret met Alex Barsamian at “Sammy G’s” bar. By 1968 Alex and Margaret were married. They had 3 children Rosemary, Johanna, and Alex Jr.

Margaret stayed home and raised the children while Alex worked. They had a multi generational household until the passing of Margaret’s mom Zabel in 1986.

Besides raising children Margaret enjoyed many things. Camping, sewing, cooking, spending time with friends and family, cooking, teaching in the Nursery at St Johns, re upholstering furniture, and we can’t forget cooking.

Margaret returned to the workforce outside the home in 1997 where she tirelessly helped out in Kohls Department Store. She spent 23 years in retail.

After Alex Sr’s passing in 2003, Margaret and the girls were overjoyed when Alex Jr married Holly on September 17 2005.

Margaret and Alex successfully raised 3 college graduates. Rosemary, Johanna and Alex Jr will be the first to tell you they feel they are the 3 luckiest people to have been raised by such caring, patient, kind and humorous people.

The Barsamian household was full of love, laughter and 3 motorhomes of adventure. Margaret was known as a jack of all trades and a master of none. She was a constant surprise. If Margaret needed to figure something out, you had 2 choices: you could either help her or stay out of her way.

Some of Margarets most recent adventures were teaching her great nieces Gabriella and Charlotte to make Cheeseboreg.

Margaret will reside forever in the hearts and memories of all who crossed her path.

Beloved wife of the late Alex.

Loving Mother of Rosemary, Johanna and Alex Jr (Holly) Barsamian.

Dear Sister of Almast (Tom) Finn.

Cherished Aunt of Mark (Debbie) Barsamian, Paul (Jennifer) Barsamian, James (Jackie) Finn and Lauren (Brian) Salyer.

Dear cousin of the late Jack (Ardemis) Kaylian and Mark Kaylian.

Margaret was loved by many Great nieces and nephews.

She will also be missed by the Asherian, Barsamian, Godoshian, Hoplamazian, Mekjian, Rodgers, Schlesinger and Vartoogian Families as well as many neighbors, friends and co-workers.

Private Funeral will take place with a burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

There will be a memorial at a future date

In lieu of flowers memorial donations to Evereg-Fenessee Educational Society (Detroit Chapter) or St Johns Armenian Church.
