Shirley passed peacefully on July 16, 2020, after a brief illness. She was born in Detroit in 1931, as a first-generation Armenian-American, born to her parents Vargarshag and Anahid Sarkisian.
She graduated from Cass Technical High School and then attended college, becoming a medical technician. She worked her entire career at Straith Clinic.
In Shirley’s earlier years, she very much enjoyed taking the Lafayette and Green bus to Downtown Detroit and relished shopping at the wonderful stores Detroit offered. In her later years, she enjoyed the company of her many friends and all the activities at St. John Armenian Church.
She leaves behind her brother Edward and his wife Virginia, and many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her loving companion, Howard Fundukian.
Private funeral to take place at St. John Armenian Church with Interment at Woodmere Cemetery in Detroit.
A memorial service in honor of Shirley will be scheduled at a later date.
Shirley will be remembered as an elegant and sophisticated lady and will be very much missed.
