Obituary for Sylvia Bjornstad

SYLVIA BJORNSTAD, age 89, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2020, with her loving husband, Harold Bjornstad, at her side. Sylvia was born December 16, 1931, in Highland Park, Michigan, the daughter of Mikayel and Aznive Artinian.

Sylvia, was a woman ahead of her time. She started her own business, Royalty Cleaners, in 1963. For 49 years, Sylvia specialized in clothing that was challenging to clean and her attention to detail was unparalleled. She had many customers from around the country.

She was a dedicated member of St. Johns Armenian church, she had a great love of her Armenian heritage and sang in the church choir. Sylvia met Harold, one of her customers, at the Cleaners, and they married in 1969.

Her family, church and employees were frequently the recipients of her generosity.

Beloved wife of Harold Bjornstad.

Dear sister of the late Margaret (Sooren) Gozmanian, dear sister of the late Artin (Mary Ann) Artinian and dear sister of the late Sema Vapurciyan. Dear sister-in-law of Ingrid (Don) Vernier.

Sylvia was deeply loved and will be missed by her many nieces and nephews. Nieces Debi (John) Green, Sara Gozmanian, Julie Artinian, Kara (Don) Cunningham, Michelle (Robert) Willig, and nephews Gary Gozmanian, Michael (Pinel) Artinian, Michael (Theresa) Vernier. Great nieces Marlee (Nick) Bresso and Isabella Vernier. Great nephews Ben Green, Jason Willig, Brian Willig, Matthew Vernier, and Andrew Vernier.

The immediate family held a private funeral service at St. John’s Armenian Church with interment followed at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Komitas Choir of St. John Armenian Church or directly to St. John Armenian Church.
