Obituary for Zepur Akaraz

Zepur Kingikyan was born to Armenuhi and Hacik on Sept. 12, 1928 in Istanbul, Turkey. She was the middle sibling to Hripsime and Garo.

She married Nazaret Hosrofyan Akaraz in August 1952. They were bleesed with their only child, Vahe. Vahe relocated to Detroit at the age of 20. He married Ani Gigian and they gave Zepur and Nazaret 2 grandchildren, Rita Zepur and Gregory Hagop. She was very proud of them.

Zepur and Nazaret moved to the US in 1983. They eventually ended up living 2 houses away from Vahe and Ani. The grandkids would run to her for chocolate and treats.

Zepur loved being independent, so regardless of her language barrier, she learned to drive. She was able to visit her friends, make trips to the grocery store and to buy yarn. Knitting was a favorite pastime of hers. She knit blankets, sweaters and doilys which she gave to friends and family. This gave her immense pleasure.

Her favorite show was Everybody Loves Raymond. She also enjoyed baking choreg and simid. She quickly adapted to life in the States trying to learn the language. In 1992, she lost her husband Nazaret, but the love her for her grandkids kept her busy.

She loved playing with her great-grandkid, Armen and Aren, Gabriella & Isabella. She used to visit her Khanamies, Melina and Hagop Gigian and they would chat over Armenian Coffee.

In 2019, she fell and broke 5 ribs which she bounced back from, but a fall she had in March did not allow her to recover.

She is survived by her son Vahe and daughter in law Ani, grandchildren Rita (Ara), Gregory (Christina) and great-grandchildren, Armen, Aren, Gabriella and Isabella, Kabakciyan and Kalfayan families, her nieces Tanja Kingikyan and her son Marcel in Germany, Tamar Akaraz Guregyan and her husband Varujan and their children, Cybill and Saro in California, the Bosna and Ginoian families of California and her cousins, the Senorkyan families in Istanbul and the Hekimian families in France.

She was a kind and strong person.

She will be missed by her friends and family.
