Alice Chavdarian
Our beloved Alice (Mavian) Chavdarian, age 92, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2020, after deteriorating health conditions further complicated by COVID 19. Alice's loving, generous, and adventurous spirit was admired by all who knew her in this life. Daughter of the late Levon and the late Mariam Mavian, and sister of Virginia (Clarence) Tamoor and the late Rose (the late Jack) Hovsepian. Beloved wife of the late Alexander Chavdarian. Loving mother of Charles (Seda) Chavdarian and the late Catherine (Michael) Chavdarian Boucher. Cherished grandmother of Lenna (Ryan) Bowden, Gregory Chavdarian, Lara (Kevin) Kleine, Juliette (Chad) Daniels, Faith (Adam) Chaaban, and precious great grandmother of Matthew and Taylor Bowden, Camden Kleine, Michael Niemi and Logan Daniels, and Charlotte Chaaban. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. Family requests in Lieu of Flowers donations to St. John Armenian Church, Southfield, Michigan. Memorial services to be announced and held at a later date.
Alice Chavdarian was born April 7, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan, Alice was a force to be reckoned with in all aspects of life. She loved her country and felt thankful throughout her life to be an American after her family survived the Armenian Genocide and immigrated to the United States. As the oldest in her family, and because she knew English, Alice took care of everyone and everything in the household, compassionately supporting her parents and sisters. Alice challenged the status quo, and her inquisitive and adventurous spirit found her experiencing the world in ways most of us can only dream.
Later in life, Alice pursued a degree in education from the University of Michigan. She became a dedicated teacher at Bird Elementary in Plymouth, Michigan, where her students affectionately called her "Mrs. Chav". She taught for over 20 years until retirement. Alice enjoyed traveling the world alongside her husband, Alexander, and spending time with her cherished family. Alice's hobbies included baking, creating art, a love of reading, playing cards, completing puzzles, and volunteering as a longtime member of Saint John Armenian Church Women's Guild.
Alice had two children (Charles & Catherine), five grandchildren (Lenna, Juliette, Greg, Lara, Faith), and six great grandchildren (Michael, Matthew, Charlotte, Taylor, Logan, Camden), who lovingly called her "Great-Great". Alice's passing has left a tremendous void within the family. She was the family's Matriarch and a pillar of strength. She will forever remain in our hearts as we strive to honor her legacy.
