Anahid I Haroutunian, 92, of Clinton Township passed away on Tuesday, April 21st at Henry Ford Macomb in the same city.
Anahid was born in Egypt and raised in Beirut Lebanon. In 1948, at age 21, she came to the United States to enter the Schauffler College of Religious and Social Work in Cleveland Ohio, to major in religious education. She also attended the Detroit Conservatory of Music to study piano. She later became a naturalized citizen of the United States.
She worked at Masco Corporation and Volunteers of America. She also enjoyed knitting, cooking Armenian delicacies, playing bingo and loved watching classic movies, especially musicals.
She met Harry Haroutunian in 1950 and the two were married in 1951. She and Harry were happily married and celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2001. She lost her husband shortly before what would have been their 51st anniversary.
Family, friends and relatives all agree that Anahid was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed. She loved going to church every week and enjoyed singing in the choir and getting to fellowship with the entire church congregation. She greeted everyone with a smile and was always passing out her hand crocheted crosses or "The Cross In My Pocket" cards. She will be remembered for her strong Christian faith and positive attitude towards life.
She is survived by her children, Susan (Michael), Mousigian of Dearborn, Bonnie (Carl) Suiter of Hazel Park, and Daniel (Sandra) Haroutunian, son-in-law William and her grandchildren, Marianne, Rosemarie, Samuel, William, Robert and Keturah. She was preceded in death by Harry and her daughter Margaret.
There will be a memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Armenian Congregational Church, 26210 W. Twelve Mile, Road, Southfield, MI 48034.
