Beloved brother of Josephine (the late Norayr) Karakouzian, Aram (Rose) Pambookian, the late Ovsanna (the late Emmanuel) Karageuzian and the late Apraham (the late Hripsime) Pambookian.

Dr. Pambookian will also be missed by his nieces, nephews and friends.

Dr. Hagop Sarkis Pambookian was born on December 18, 1932 in Kerek-Khan, Turkey. Son of Sarkis and Tamom (Karageuzian) Pambookian.

A first-generation immigrant from Lebanon and son of Armenian genocide survivors, Dr. Pambookian earned his undergraduate degree from the American University of Beirut and chose to come to the United States from Lebanon in Aug. 1961 to earn his advanced psychology degrees. He received his master's degree from Columbia University Teachers College (New York City) and his doctorate degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

His career spanned decades, working as an Instructor, Assistant professor, associate professor, research assistant, and lecturer, including work as a Senior Fulbright lecturer at Yerevan State University in Armenia. Dr. Pambookian was an Emeritus Professor of psychology at Shawnee State University in Ohio. Dr. Pambookian helped establish and shape the psychology program following his association with the university in 1987, including designing new courses, leading to the creation of SSU's psychology degree.

Dr. Pambookian's love for helping others benefit in their academic careers does not just extend to SSU, but also to the Armenian Academy of Sciences in Yerevan, Armenia. He created the Pambookian Foundation at the academy's Fundamental Library, which features more than 3,300 English language psychology books and various psychology journals, all of which were donated by Pambookian. In fact, under the presidency of the renowned, late astrophysicist, Victor Hampartzoomian, the Academy honored him by naming the room of his psychology books/ journals collection "Pambookian Room."

Dr. Pambookian was a widely known scholar for his many contributions worldwide. Having visited over 30 countries to give lectures at universities and conventions, on a visit to Moscow as the guest of the Institute of Psychology, the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dr. Pambookian was honored by being elected an Honorary Member of the International Academy of Psychological Sciences in Yaroslavl, Russia. He was also awarded the "Paul Swaddling Award" by the Ohio Education Association (OEA) for "his contributions to international understanding and peace."

He has been given many awards throughout his career, but his quote says what is most important. "I do not do my work to win awards, I just want to see the field progress as much as possible, it is, however, a truly humbling experience."

Dr. Pambookian will be remembered as an international scholar, and a dedicated and proud Armenian.
