Esther Kulhanjian passed away on August 24, 2023 at the age of 93.  She was born on February 18, 1930 in Highland Park, Michigan to her dear parents Haratoun and Dikranouhi Jernikian who were survivors of the 1915 Armenian Genocide.

Beloved wife for 69 years of Paul Kulhanjian.

Dear mother of Julie Kulhanjian Strauch (Roger) and Laura Conrow (Bill).  Proud and loving grandmother to Paul Strauch, Nairi Strauch (Alex Lazzaro), Catherine Conrow, and Lauren Conrow.  She was preceded in death by her siblings Arthur Jernikian (Mary) and Lily Sakmar (late Paul). Esther will also be missed by her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was a retired Detroit Public Schools teacher of 38 years, avid gardener, and remarkable cook.

Visitation Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Armenian Church.

Funeral Service to begin at 11:00 a.m.

Burial Service to take place at Woodlawn Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Mer Hooys ("Our Hope"), a 501c3 organization that helps severely at risk girls in Armenia with safe shelter, psychological and educational support, and job training so they can live independent meaningful lives.
