George L. Houhanisin

Beloved son of the late Frank and the late Mary. Loving husband of Julie. Loving father of Angela Links, Maro (Doug Mansky) Houhanisin and Jake Houhanisin. Cherished grandfather of Darby, Audrey, Alana and Colton. Dear brother of Bob (Rosamond) Houhanisin and the late Frank (Linda) Houhanisin. Brother-in-law of Lori Der Pilibosian, Phil Der Pilibosian and Robyn (Fred) Farwell. George will also be missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

George passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024 surrounded by his wife and children at the age of 70.  

Born and raised in Detroit, he was the youngest of three boys. George was a graduate of Cass Tech and continued his studies at Lawrence Tech, eventually obtaining his degree in architecture.

To many in his field, George was not only a coworker – he was a friend and treasured mentor. His visions always began on a napkin and today can be seen throughout metro Detroit by all. Alongside his beloved wife, Julie, he was able to fulfill his dreams of designing the home they shared together.

Known as “Mustang George” by some, he was a true car enthusiast his whole life. George could be found on the weekends cruising Woodward.

Even though George had a long list of professional accomplishments, he was most proud of his children. His grandchildren brought him the utmost joy and could always bring a smile to his face.

Visitation will be on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm with funeral service. Burial will immediately follow at White Chapel Cemetery, 621 W. Long Lake Road in Troy. 

A Memorial Meal will follow the Burial. 

The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to the staff and residents at Sunrise of Troy for the compassion shown to both George and the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation or Gentiva Hospice.
