My mother Janet was known all over the neighborhood as the dog lady ( as she adored all dogs).
She was known at Hollywood market as the bread lady
( because she was always buying bread for the birds).
She was also known at the Dollar store as the cookie lady (because she would buy tons of cookies to feed the squirrels)
But mostly she was the book lady ( she absolutely loved reading).
On most warm days you could find her on the front porch enjoying her book, Or in the backyard, refilling the birdfeeder. If you happened to walk by with a dog, she was sure to run out to pet it and give it a treat!
My mother Janet had a heart of gold!
January 12, 2021 was the day that things took a turn for my mother. As many of you know, she fell at the bank and broke her hip! Things went downhill rapidly after that. Even after she recovered from all of that and returned to her home, she fell down the stairs ( And broke her collarbone) less than one week after she settled in there.
These last months have been extremely difficult for her, as she was out of place, Confused and uncomfortable!
For those who don't know, I was told on December 7th That my mother tested positive for COVID-19. For the next five days she was kept in quarantine and had no symptoms. On the sixth day she began to experience more severe shortness of breath and on day seven was unable to eat, drink or speak!( I am told she suffered from Covid induced encephalitis)
Thankfully, she wasn't aware of being in the state for very long.
My mother is now at rest and I'm thankful! She will be greatly missed on Forest Avenue I'm sure, but, I feel certain she is now in charge of taking care of all of the stray animals in heaven!
Rest in peace mom, I love you and I will miss you every day of my life.
