John "Jiggy" Sarkissian

Beloved husband of Pearl for 56 years. Loving father of Nancy Ann (Kevin) Graham and Corey Abraham (Jenny) Sarkissian who predeceased John in 2011, and Eric John Sarkissian. Loving son of the late Khasvart and the late Khoren Sarkissian. Dear brother of the late Dorothy (the late John) Mosher, the late Lucy (the late Dr. Sam) Getty and the late Simon (Anna) Sarkissian.  Loving grandfather of Michael, Nicole, Marisa, Alaina, Christopher, Megan, Corey Jr., and Noah. Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. John was a teacher at Warren High School from 1967-1994, where he taught wood shop, drafting, and machine shop. He was also an amazing golf coach at Warren High School who loved to mentor and encourage others. John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from May 1951 thru May 1955 in Waco, Texas during the Korean War. John was very proud of his Armenian heritage. He played an Armenian instrument, the Dumbeg (drum), for many years in an Armenian band called The Hye Tones. He also loved to dance which earned him the nickname “Jiggy”. During his retirement years John enjoyed golfing, gardening, doing crossword puzzles, watching sports and “Jeopardy” in his Lazy-Boy recliner, and spending time with his grandchildren and family. He also loved eating ice cream any chance he got. 
He will be greatly missed and forever loved by his family and many friends he made throughout his life journey of 91 years. 
 

Visitation Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Edward Korkoian Funeral Home.

John's Funeral will begin at 2:30 p.m. followed by a US Air Force Military Honors to begin at 3:00 p.m. 

His Earthly Resting Place at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI.

In lieu of flowers donations in John's memory are to St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church or American Heart Association.
