Karen Ann VanGieson (née Suder)
June 28, 1944 – January 27, 2025

Karen Ann VanGieson (née Suder) born in Denver, Colorado passed away on January 27, 2025, in Clinton Twp., Michigan at the age of 80. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister,  aunt and friend who brought warmth and joy to everyone she met.

Karen was the beloved mother of Stephanie (Bryan) Flynn and Kenneth (Leslie) VanGieson, and wife of Melvin VanGieson. She was a loving “Gram” to Chad, Chase, and Colby Flynn; Amber (Phillip) Frantz, Samantha VanGieson, Brandon (Stephanie) VanGieson, Derek VanGieson, Paige (Mitchell) VanGieson-Goepel, and Andrea (Dominic) Knopek. She was also a proud and loving “Great Gram” to Grace, Rocco, Noelle, and Eleanor Frantz.

She is survived by her brother, Charles Suder, Sr., as well as many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Dovie Suder Sr.; her brothers, Joseph Jr. and Jim; and Donald and Thomas VanGieson.

Karen found joy in spending time with her family and friends, always showing up for life’s milestones—birthdays, graduations, and weddings. She had a sweet tooth like no other, always ready for dessert, always enjoying it before her meal. When she was with her grandchildren, it was hard to tell who was the kid. She was known to start table food fights with her grandsons in restaurants when she ran out of spitballs. Her playful and loving spirit made every moment special. She was a kind-hearted woman who would help anyone in need.

Mom, you suffered for a long time and never complained. I hope you are now running freely in heaven, enjoying all the desserts you love. Try not to start too many spitball and food fights! We love you and miss you.

A memorial to celebrate this beautiful lady will be held at a later time.
