Mary Mugerian was born on November 1, 1925, in Boston, MA to Dickran and Yevpime Torossian. When Mary was 3 years old, the family moved to Detroit, where they enjoyed living near Yevpime’s sisters. After high school, Mary attended Wayne University and the University of Michigan, where she graduated with an education degree.
In 1942, Mary met her prince, George Mugerian. After George discharged from the US Navy, he and Mary reunited and were married in 1947.
They were blessed with their first son, Rodney, in 1955, followed four years later with Bruce. Mary dedicated her life to making a happy and spirited home for George and their boys. She was also a devoted daughter to her parents and especially to her mother after her father died in 1968. Mary returned to school and at the age of 46, she received a Master’s degree in psychology from Marygrove College in 1971.
As the boys grew older, Mary and George loved traveling to northern Michigan. They also made memorable trips to Europe, where Mary loved visiting cultural and historical sights. Holidays at the Mugerian house were festive and full of family, food and great conversation. Mary followed in her mother’s footsteps as a great baker and cook. She fed her family with love every day.
Mary was blessed with two beautiful grandchildren, Maryann and George. She loved spending time with them at her home Harbor Springs, where they enjoyed summer life on Lake Michigan. She was always proud of the kids and their many accomplishments.
In 2017, Mary became a great-grandmother when Makena was born. Last year, in 2021, she was blessed with two more great-granddaughters, Kennedi and Charlotte.
Mary’s life was totally dedicated to her family. Her joy was in seeing her family happy, healthy and successful. She lived to the fullest and will be remembered by all who knew her.
