Nevart Rose Stamboulian was born June 17, 1923 to Mugrdich & Araxy (Manoukian) Stamboulian, immigrants from Kharpert, Armenia. She was the younger sister to Sevart and Charlie and they grew up on Grand Avenue & Normandy in Detroit and attended Longfellow Grade School and Central High School. During her high school days, her name caused some confusion and she was assigned to the boy's locker room. Soon after graduation, she changed her name to Rose Nevart. As a young woman, she worked at the Detroit Ordinance District's War Department and at the Water Board's Zoning Department. Her social life consisted of Armenian dances and gatherings with friends and extended family in Detroit, Cleveland, and Chicago. On New Year's Eve 1945, she went on a blind date with George Nishon Godoshian, a Pontiac boy. One month later they were engaged, and one month after that they were married, on March 3, 1946. Early in their marriage they lived in Grosse Pointe, Highland Park, and Detroit.
