Sarah Terio died peacefully, surrounded by family on July 31, 2015 at Angela Hospice of Livonia after a difficult battle with cancer. She was born Sarah Mooshmoolian on May 5, 1921 in Highland Park, MI. Shortly after, her mother, Zartar (Mooradian), and father, Krikor Mooshmoolian moved to Troy, homesteading on 25 acres, and built the house she lived in until she died. After her father's death, she got her driver's license at thirteen to enable her and her mother to run a truck farm. Sarah delivered eggs and milk to the Armenian community in Highland Park, MI and sold their produce at the Pontiac Farmers' Market and the Detroit Eastern Market. Sarah graduated from Big Beaver High School in 1939. Sarah married Antonio Terio at St. John's Armenian Church on January 16, 1942. A son Richard Louis was Born in 1944 and a daughter, Priscilla Ann in 1948. They opened Terio's Super Market on the corner of Rochester Rd and Maple Rd in the mid 1950s. In addition to the Grocery store, for a brief period, Sarah operated a pizzeria restaurant in East Detroit before selling the grocery store in 1966. As the consummate entrepreneur, she began working as a stock broker for many brokerage houses (Marintett; Roney and Co, Raymond James) in downtown Detroit starting in 1966. Sarah retired at age 80 from Raymond James in 2001. She was very active during her life. While running the grocery store, she was on a bowling league as well as a Business Women's Golf League. Since retiring in 2001, Sarah continued to participate in the Woman's Golf League in Troy, the Red Hats of Troy, and also led the preparation of an annual Armenian meal for the Senior Citizens at the Troy Community Center. Sarah is survived by her son Richard (Sandra) Terio and daughter Priscilla Belanger (Sam Allen), two Grandchildren; Jennifer (Scott) LaMontagne and Ted (Zoua) Terio, and five great grandchildren: Harrison, Juliette, Alexis, Ivan and Jade. She was preceded in death by her parents, Zartar and Kirkor Mooshmoolian; husband, Antonio Terio; Sister Paully Dakesian. Funeral Services will be held at St. John's Armenian Church 22001 Northwestern Highway, Southfield on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held at 9:30 am at the church.
